Lots of visitors...

Dear Nicky,

Today a bunch of people came to see you. They were here to arrange for your therapy with Early Intervention, a state-sanctioned program whereby children with disabilities receive treatment to enable them to do the same things as other children. I wish you didn't need this treatment, but unfortunately you do. We don't think your disabilities are very significant. In fact, doctors have told us that in many ways you're ahead of the curve in terms of development. But the fact remains that you've been diagnosed with Trisomy 21 and will probably have to deal with some obstacles. These obstacles might be large or small; it's too early to tell. If they're large, the treatment can only help; if they're small, the treatment can only help put you ahead of the game. It couldn't hurt, in other words. Mom and I really hope that all the stimulation you'll be receiving from these people will pay off. We just want you to have every advantage possible.

Love,
Dad
